Whose Legacy? by Veronica Hook

Pass on Grandpa’s legacy, you say

With Grandpa gone, memories and stories fade

Great Grandchildren meet as babes

Relationships lacking living history made

Pass on Grandpa’s legacy, you say

Grandpa told enchanting stories with such jazz

to his grandchildren about generations past.

How will I tell his story with as much pizzazz?

Pass on Grandpa’s legacy, you say

Sitting at the table, rolling loose tobacco smokes,

A chipped mug, hot instant coffee strong

I remember his excitement from those days.

Pass on Grandpa’s legacy, you say

Work and family homesteading memories told

from a different world, family and values fade

Memoirs written on simple, white pages behold.

Pass on Grandpa’s legacy, you say

New technology has taken hold.

Digital technology replacing bulky journals of a day

Will memories still be told?

Pass on Grandpa’s legacy, you say

Will the digital world help or hinder?

For others to know what may.

Stories of where we came from in splendor.
