The Light We Claim by Joshua Molina

They speak of life’s swift, sudden spin, But this past year, the fight was deep within. No gentle
curveball, thrown in jest, But the ultimate, fire-forged test.

I saw an ending where a start had been, Lost the connection, lost the air, and then, Found a new
ground, though the earth felt thin— The strength to build myself again.

A darkness sought to claim its keep, A silent weight that would not sleep. The fiercest war fought,
hour by hour, To find the rising, inner power.

I had to choose: to slide away From the quiet toxic of the gray. No saving grace, no “wonderwall,
Just the fierce will to stand up tall.

The doubts dispersed by action met, No backward glance, no deep regret. This week, this moment,
standing here, Is the sound of triumph, bright and clear.

December twelfth: The final, hard-won prize. I walk that stage beneath these skies, Not for the
scroll alone, or name, But for the fire that fueled the flame.

I lost some ground, but learned to fly. The wounds are scars that testify: They bent the steel, but
could not break. I’m here, ready for the path I take.

The battle’s won, the future starts. With open hands and fearless hearts— We are the winners, bold
and free, Ready to live forever, finally.

Biography:

I have always considered my art and craft to be my ultimate tool of expression. Since I was very young, I have always searched for ways to express whatever I am feeling through multiple different lenses such as writing short stories, creating electronic music, or photography work. Writing allows me the freedom to get as creative as possible but also with as little of a budget as possible, as some of my other creative pursuits utilize expensive equipment that I may not have access to at all times or simply cannot afford on a whim where as with writing, all I need to do is pull up a blank document on my computer or even take a pen and start writing in a composition book that I carry with me to start writing when I feel inspired. Some of the artists that have inspired my work are gothic literature giants such as Emily Bronte, Edgar Allen Poe, and Mary Shelley. I have always found their works to be full of detail and symbolism that just makes my imagination come alive whenever I read any of their works. I also take inspiration for my writing from prolific songwriters such as Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, and Noel Gallagher of Oasis. These writers and songwriters have all been unafraid to express themselves boldly in their works and I strive to be as bold as they are in my storytelling. My goal with my writing is that I create something with enough detail to inspire someone to create their own works and keep the cycle of creativity and artistic expression flowing for generations to come.
