Biography – My name is Katelyn Rogers, after a 10-year break from schooling since high school, I am excited to begin a new chapter as a student at Aims Community College, pursuing my Associate of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a focus on Studio Art.
Over the past decade, I have spent time in the working world and gained life experience that helped me understand who I am and what I truly value. One constant discovery has been that I am, and always will be, an artist. Creating—whether through painting, drawing, or other forms of artistic expression—continues to be how I make sense of the world around me.
After the birth of my second child, I went through a challenging postpartum period marked by depression and isolation. Having recently moved away from family and friends, I turned to painting as a way to ground myself. When I picked up my brush again after many years, it felt like reconnecting with an old friend. I began painting everything around me—the flowers in my garden, ducks on the nearby pond, and the feelings I couldn’t put into words.
One of my earliest and most meaningful series was inspired by the marigolds growing in my yard. As I painted them under the warm sun with my baby beside me, I felt myself beginning to heal. The marigolds became a symbol of resilience, growth, and renewal—qualities I wanted to embody for myself and for my children. That summer, I painted over a hundred pieces, each one a part of my recovery and rediscovery of joy.
Those paintings, like my path back to education, remind me that growth is always possible, creativity is always within reach, and it’s never too late to bloom again.
