Echoes on Asphalt by Shawna Peters

Echoes on Asphalt
Biography: Shawna Peters is an emerging artist and graphic design student at Aims Community College, where she is exploring how visual storytelling can transform everyday moments into emotional experiences. Returning to school marks a deeply personal chapter for her; a commitment to reclaiming her expressiveness after surviving ovarian cancer. Shawna uses art to process, honor and share the story that reshaped her life. For Shawna, art is both grounding and restorative. It has become a space where she can translate the complexity of her life’s journey so far—the fear, clarity and unexpected beauty in chaos— on a canvas that does not need further explanation. Through drawing, she has found a way to heal, to breathe and to reconnect with the parts of herself that illness tried to quiet.Shawna gravitates toward colored pencil and mixed media because they allow her to build depth slowly, intentionally and meditatively. She sees her artistic process as a conversation between observation and emotion, where realism becomes a way to honor the small truths of daily life. Echoes in Asphalt embodies her belief that even the simplest moments can reveal unexpected depth when viewed from a different perspective.Inspired by artists like Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe and Jeremy Mann, Shawna is developing a style rooted in stillness, subtlety and sensory detail. As an artist, she strives to create work that invites viewers to pause, breathe and see the world a little differently.
