American Farmer

Golden seas of grain stretched out far and wide
Hours of work put into the field
Every farmer’s pride
Hoping the harvest has good yield
Praying for good weather
American Farmers get no rest
Keeping their farms together
Vowing to give their very best

The unsung heroes of our land
We need to praise you more
Without you we could not stand
We have so much to thank you for

Pride swells in his chest as he looks over his cattle
Blood and sweat and many tears
Go into every battle
Ups and downs through the years
He’s seen them all before
Sickness and crying
More than he can abhorre
Yet he must keep on trying

The unsung heroes of our land
We need to praise you more
Without you we could not stand
We have so much to thank you for

Being a steward of the land
It isn’t always fun
With no one to lend a hand
Still the work must be done
Protecting and conserving
All year long he labors
No one’s more deserving
He never gets any favors

The unsung heroes of our land
We need to praise you more
Without you we could not stand
We have so much to thank you for

He looks at the dry cracked ground
Kneels and scratches in the dust
Not a drop of moisture to be found
Hopes his crops are not a bust
His eyes look up towards the sky
Praying for a rain
Does his best not to cry
Even when his hearts in pain

The unsung heroes of our land
We need to praise you more
Without you we could not stand
We have so much to thank you for

The cold has crept in and harvest has past
Snow is falling white and icy
He prays this winter is easier than last
Days with low temps can be quite dicey
Making sure the animals are all right
Getting ready for the cold
Before shutting his eyes at night
Letting sleep take its hold

The unsung heroes of our land
We need to praise you more
Without you we could not stand
We have so much to thank you for

He looks at his team
His children and his wife
They are part of this dream
His biggest blessing in life
There is so much he has to show
To his girl and boy
He hopes one day they will know
That farming is a joy

The unsung heroes of our land
We need to praise you more
Without you we could not stand
We have so much to thank you for
