The smartest person I ever knew
was also a student.
They always dove head first
into a pool of not knowing.
They always asked more than they answered,
and never answered what they didn’t know.
A graceful pen, chugging
along a narrow road,
filling in what most don’t see.
The smartest mind I ever met
taught me this:
Wisdom is not a throne,
But a desk worn by the tips of pens,
Piled high with papers,
with questions tangled like wires,
and an empty chair
waiting beside it.
