Manta Rave by Angela Dunn

Biography – Originally, proximity brought me to Aims in the form of advanced classes offered to high school students. After graduating from UNC, a desire to maintain and advance my education and skill brought me back. Art is my release. I engage in art to celebrate, to entertain and to calm myself. I started with drawing and would always draw amazing things, just very small and in black and white. I saw painting as a way to force myself to create larger and more colorful images. The circular composition always drew my interest as a standout against all the square and rectangular canvases. Lucky for me, I was friends with the local instrument repair technician, who provided me with used drumheads to paint on. Through school and practice, I found that art could be not only expression, but discipline. I continue to work with drawing and painting mediums in many different sizes and colors today.

Artists that inspire my work:
Joyce Spakman – designer/makeup artist (Netherlands)
Paul Reid – artist, painter (United Kingdom)
Essi Valimaki – artist (Finland)
